First Assistant United States Attorney David L. Anderson To Join Sidley Austin in San Francisco
Successfully Tried Major Securities Fraud Cases and Will Lead Sidley’s White Collar Practice in Northern California
San Francisco – Sidley Austin LLP announced today that David L. Anderson, First Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of California, will join the firm as a partner in the San Francisco office. Mr. Anderson will lead Sidley’s white collar practice in Northern California and will also focus on the firm’s securities litigation and trial practices.
As First Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mr. Anderson had responsibility for criminal, civil and tax matters on behalf of the United States in the Northern District of California. He personally tried two of the most high-profile criminal securities fraud cases in the District in the past decade, United States v. Gregory L. Reyes, involving stock options backdating by the former CEO and board chairman of a technology company, and United States v. Charles W. McCall, involving accounting fraud by the former board chairman of a public company. Both trials resulted in convictions.

Before joining the United States Attorney’s Office in 2008, Mr. Anderson built a successful white collar practice and served as managing partner of an international law firm’s San Francisco office, where he focused on board-level representations of individuals, audit committees and public companies in criminal, SEC and internal investigations. Mr. Anderson previously served in the United States Attorney’s Office from 1998 to 2002, concluding his service as a member of the Securities Fraud Unit.
Mr. Anderson received his J.D., with distinction, Order of the Coif, from Stanford Law School in 1990, where he served as an editor of the Stanford Law Review. After law school, Mr. Anderson clerked for Chief Judge J. Clifford Wallace, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, Associate Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, U.S. Supreme Court, and Judge George H. Aldrich, Iran-United States Claims Tribunal.
Mr. Anderson also has served as the chair and remains active in the Merit Selection Panel that screens candidates for magistrate judge vacancies in the federal court in San Francisco.
