Sidley Austin LLP Elects Six in New York to Partnership; 33 Promoted to Partner Throughout the Firm

Law Firm Announces New Partners in New York Office’s Corporate Reorganization and Bankruptcy, Food, Drug and Medical Device Regulatory, Global Finance, Investment Funds, Advisers and Derivatives, Real Estate and Securities Litigation Practices

New York – Six lawyers in the New York office of Sidley Austin LLP are among the 33 lawyers elected to partnership in the firm. Effective, January 1, 2012, the firm has 670 partners in offices in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia. The new New York partners are Matthew E. Fernand, Real Estate; Alex J. Kaplan, Securities Litigation; Diane C. McEnroe, Food, Drug and Medical Device Regulatory; Michele (Miki) Navazio, Investment Funds, Advisers and Derivatives; Jonathan A. Nunes, Global Finance; and Alex R. Rovira, Corporate Reorganization and Bankruptcy.

Matthew E. Fernand, 35, a partner in the Real Estate practice, focuses on the financing, development, acquisition and disposition of commercial properties and the formation of real estate joint ventures and partnerships. Additionally, Mr. Fernand has significant experience representing both landlords and tenants in office, retail and industrial lease transactions, as well as in loan workouts/restructurings.

Mr. Fernand, formerly an associate, received his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University, and his B.A. from Emory University.

Alex J. Kaplan, 35, a partner in the Securities Litigation practice, represents corporations, individuals and professional services firms in a variety of complex commercial litigation matters, as well as in regulatory and internal investigations. Mr. Kaplan has handled cases in federal and state courts, and in sponsored and private arbitration, throughout the United States.

Mr. Kaplan, formerly an associate, received his J.D., magna cum laude, from American University’s Washington College of Law, where he was an editor of the Administrative Law Review. He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Diane C. McEnroe, 49, a partner in the Food, Drug and Medical Device Regulatory practice, represents domestic and global companies in the food, drug, medical device and personal care industries. She has appeared before the Food and Drug Administration, the Federal Trade Commission and the Drug Enforcement Administration, and regularly counsels clients on a full range of matters involving FDA regulatory compliance, claims substantiation, food safety, over-the-counter drug monograph compliance, post-marketing obligations, including adverse event reporting and recalls, and pharmaceutical regulation, including sampling compliance and state licensure and substitution issues.

Ms. McEnroe, formerly a counsel, received her J.D. from University of Connecticut School of Law and her B.A. from Wellesley College.

Michele (Miki) Navazio, 51, a partner in the Investment Funds, Advisers and Derivatives practice, advises hedge funds and other end users with respect to a wide variety of derivatives and trading documentation, including ISDA master agreements, prime brokerage arrangements and repurchase agreements, as well as with respect to credit default swaps and equity, foreign exchange and commodity derivatives. Mr. Navazio also advises on regulatory issues and developments that affect derivatives market participants, including central clearing, collateral segregation, reporting and compliance.

Mr. Navazio, formerly an associate, received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and his B.A. from Wesleyan University.

Jonathan A. Nunes, 36, a partner in the Global Finance practice, focuses primarily on the representation of issuers, sponsors, underwriters, originators, servicers, investors and loan sellers in a wide range of commercial real estate capital markets transactions, including public and private commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) issuances, re-REMICS, A/B and pari passu mortgage loan structures and mezzanine loans.

Mr. Nunes, formerly an associate, received his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.

Alex R. Rovira, 35, a partner in the Corporate Reorganization and Bankruptcy practice, represents clients on various aspects of restructuring, bankruptcy and insolvency matters in both the U.S. and the UK, as well as in securitizations and structured finance matters. Mr. Rovira’s work has included representing both debtors and creditors rights in complex chapter 11 cases, chapter 15 cases and cross-border reorganizations.

Mr. Rovira, formerly an associate, received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and his A.B. from Harvard University.
