Sidley Austin LLP Elects Two in Washington, D.C. to Partnership; 28 Promoted to Partner Throughout the Firm

Law Firm Announces New Partners in Washington, D.C. Office’s Appellate, Food, Drug and Medical Device Regulatory and White Collar Practices

Washington, D.C. – Two lawyers in the Washington, D.C. office of Sidley Austin LLP are among the 28 lawyers elected to partnership in the firm. Effective January 1, 2011, the firm has 643 partners in offices in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia. The new Washington, D.C. partners are Lauren R. Silvis, Food, Drug and Medical Device Regulatory, and Gordon D. Todd, White Collar and Appellate.

“Lauren and Gordon embody Sidley’s commitment to quality, client service and a collegial culture,” added Carter G. Phillips, managing partner of Sidley’s Washington, D.C. office. “I am pleased to congratulate both on this accomplishment and am proud to call each of them my partner.”

Lauren R. Silvis, 33, is a partner in the Food, Drug and Medical Device Regulatory practice. Ms. Silvis focuses primarily on FDA regulation of drugs, biological products and medical devices. She counsels clients on drug and device safety issues, the regulation of clinical trials, promotion of FDA-regulated products, import and export issues, combination products and the regulation of in vitro diagnostic devices. She has worked on major transactions involving FDA-regulated firms and has conducted regulatory due diligence for both buyers and sellers of public and private companies. Ms. Silvis has also worked with clients in the food, dietary supplement and cosmetic industries.

Ms. Silvis, formerly an associate, received her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. She received her A.B., cum laude, from Duke University. Previously, Ms. Silvis served as a law clerk to the Honorable James L. Ryan on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Gordon D. Todd, 38, is a partner in the White Collar and Appellate practices. Mr. Todd has represented individual, public and corporate clients in a variety of investigations, trials and appeals. Mr. Todd has litigated civil and criminal matters arising under a range of statutes including the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Lanham Act, RCRA, CERCLA and the Fair Housing Act. Mr. Todd has particular experience with matters involving expert witness testimony and Daubert issues.

Mr. Todd, formerly an associate, received his J.D., Order of the Coif, from University of Virginia School of Law, and his A.B., cum laude, from Princeton University. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Todd held several appointments at the United States Department of Justice, most recently as a Deputy Associate Attorney General. He also previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable Samuel A. Alito, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, and to the Honorable C. Arlen Beam, Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
