Sidley Austin LLP Wins the Most Innovative Gender Diversity Initiative Award at the Chambers USA Women in Law Awards

Four Partners Short-Listed

New York – Sidley Austin LLP won the Most Innovative Gender Diversity Initiative (Law Firm) Award at the first Chambers USA Women in Law Awards, held on February 2 in New York. The Awards honored outstanding female legal stars and the law firms that have made an outstanding contribution to gender diversity awareness and to the mentoring of women lawyers.

Four Sidley partners also were shortlisted for Awards which reflected women’s achievements in their chosen practice areas. The nominated Sidley partners were: Sara B. Brody – Litigator of the Year; Connie M. Friesen – Regulatory Lawyer of the Year; Cathy M. Kaplan – Finance Lawyer of the Year; and Allison J. Satyr – Up and Coming Finance Lawyer of the Year.

“Sidley is very proud to support this initiative, and we are honored to be recognized for our commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal community,” said Thomas A. Cole, chair of Sidley’s Executive Committee. “And we congratulate Sara, Connie, Cathy and Allison on this well-deserved recognition.”

“We are thrilled to be the first to be acknowledged by Chambers USA for our innovative efforts in gender diversity,” said Laurin Blumenthal Kleiman, co-chair of the firm’s Committee on Retention and Promotion of Women. “Sidley’s women’s initiative has a long history, and we are proud of our record of recruiting, retaining and promoting talented women lawyers. Recognition by an organization with the global significance of Chambers -- particularly in light of the many other fine firms nominated in this category -- not only validates our program but advances the cause for women in the profession everywhere.”

Sidley is one of only three law firms to receive the Catalyst Award, given by Catalyst, the leading research and advisory organization dedicated to expanding opportunities for women and business. To learn more about Sidley’s diversity initiatives, visit http://www.sidley.com/ourfirm/diversity/.
