RECRUITING
What sort of person are we looking for?
We aim to recruit high quality legal professionals who can ideally demonstrate experience from a premier law firm and excellent academics. Drive, commitment and initiative, combined with a strong business awareness are essential.
Associates:
Sidley provides an excellent opportunity for lawyers seeking a change in their professional environment. Sidley’s practice is broad and diverse, the client base sophisticated and varied. The firm has a national and international reputation for excellence in the practice of law. This excellence is reflected in Sidley’s commitment to providing a collegial, collaborative environment with an emphasis on continuing legal education, professional growth and career development.
Our hiring varies based on the needs of our office and practice groups. We are always considering applications from laterals.
Trainees:
We are looking for people who are bright, with outstanding academic qualifications and strong personal skills. During the two year traineeship, we offer four seats within our practice groups. In each group, a trainee will work closely with a partner or a senior associate to ensure that training provided is both effective and based on practical experience.
Legal Assistants:
A legal assistant typically has a law degree or specialized training. Legal assistants support the associates, counsels and partners in serving clients. They perform research (e.g. legal, economic, factual data), prepare first drafts of submissions and often provide knowledge management support.
Recruitment Process
Interested candidates should e-mail both their resume and their law school transcript to our legal recruiting contacts. If a position is available which appears to suit your background and qualifications, you may be invited for an interview or conference call. The person with whom you will have an interview varies depending on the position you are applying for. Applicants for associate positions who are selected for an interview normally meet at least one of their potential peers and a partner. The aim of the interview is to give both parties an understanding of how you can contribute to our efforts to serve our clients.
