SUMMER PROGRAM
The Dallas office relies mainly on its summer program for associate hiring needs. The majority of new associates participated in the summer program. The aim of the Dallas office is to hire summer associates for its summer program who will be qualified to become associates after graduation. The Dallas office takes pride in its summer program which is structured so that the summer associate works on a variety of challenging and interesting work with feedback from the partner or associate from whom the work is assigned. In addition, the Dallas office makes every effort to give the summer associate a true picture of what it is like to be an associate with the Dallas office of Sidley.
The goal of the summer program is to acquaint the summer associate with the practice of intellectual property law, the lawyers and staff of the Dallas office and the city of Dallas. Our summer program has been successful in its goal of identifying summer associates who are qualified to join us as permanent associates.
Highlights of the Summer Program
- Mentoring: Each summer associate works closely with a supervising partner and associate who will assign work, supply timely feedback and answer any questions.
- Variety: You will get the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging projects including litigation-related projects, patent prosecution, and trademark prosecution.
- Training: We are proud to offer a combination of training in our summer program that few firms can equal. Weekly patent prosecution workshops are conducted to teach you how to write patent claims, how to respond to office actions from the Patent & Trademark Office, and other prosecution skills. We offer an interactive, hands-on litigation school where you will learn litigation skills such as interviewing fact witnesses, deposing witnesses, examining witnesses, and arguing motions.
- Flexibility: We prefer summer associates to spend the first half of their summer with us, but we will consider second half or entire summer employment.
- Sociability: Because we feel it is essential get to know each other on both a professional and personal level, various cultural and social events are planned as part of our summer program.
