Our Practice

Electronic Commerce

Sidley is at the forefront of representing companies providing financial services and engaging in electronic commerce. We advise clients in the creation of new products to take advantage of technological developments, on the sale of existing products through alternative delivery mechanisms and on the structuring of strategic relationships and processing contracts to take full advantage of rapidly changing developments. Sidley represents E-commerce leaders in Internet banking products, payment systems and portals that offer access to financial services, as well as issues surrounding debit, prepaid and stored value cards, electronic distribution of government benefits and use of ATMs to sell non-traditional products. Our lawyers also represent entities seeking to establish Internet-only banks, and traditional financial service providers with E-commerce ventures. Through our European offices we have provided assistance to clients on worldwide roll outs of electronic banking products, including prepaid and stored value products.  Several of our lawyers also are part of Sidley’s Technology, Media and Privacy group, an interdisciplinary practice group organized to specifically address E-commerce issues on behalf of the firm’s diverse client base.
