ELLYCE R. COOPER is a partner in the firm’s Los Angeles Litigation group and has extensive experience in handling both complex commercial litigation and government investigations.
Ms. Cooper’s state and federal litigation practice includes representing clients in connection with False Claims Act matters, including qui tam “whistleblower” lawsuits, accountant liability litigation, and medical device and pharmaceutical matters. She has defended clients through various stages of litigation, from trial preparation through verdict. Ms. Cooper’s diverse white collar experience includes representing clients in internal investigations and government investigations with an emphasis on health care and accounting related matters. She has significant experience representing providers in Medicare Fraud and Abuse matters. She has also worked on investigations related to regulatory compliance issues.
Ms. Cooper also represents clients in proceedings before the Securities and Exchange Commission involving government fraud, stock options, financial institutions, banking accounting practices, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Recently, Ms. Cooper has worked on matters involving the adequacy of loan loss or other reserves.
Ms. Cooper is well versed in electronic collection and production and has spoken on the topic of electronic discovery. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Cooper served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Alex Kozinski in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Dean D. Pregerson in the United States District Court. While in law school, Ms. Cooper was the recipient of four American Jurisprudence Awards – in Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law II, Wills and Trusts, and Professional Responsibility.
