Chicago – Sidley Austin LLP has, for the sixth consecutive year, achieved a ‘perfect’ 100 percent score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) Report. This outstanding rating in the 2013 report has earned the Firm recognition as a “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.”
The CEI Report is the premier national benchmark for LGBT workplace inclusion. It provides an in-depth analysis and rating of U.S. employers and their policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees. The report evaluates companies based on their policies and programs supporting LGBT employees including non-discrimination policies, diversity training, and benefits for domestic partners and transgender employees, among other criteria.
“Sidley remains steadfast in its commitment to maintain an inclusive culture across the firm,” said Thomas A. Cole, Co-Chair of Sidley’s Executive Committee. “It’s very rewarding to again have our efforts in this area recognized by the Human Rights Campaign.”
“Historically, Sidley has always been a strong proponent of diversity in the workforce,” said Carter Phillips, Co-Chair of Sidley’s Executive Committee. “We remain dedicated to our commitment to diversity and inclusion and are very proud to have achieved a 100 percent score on the CEI Report for six straight years.”
“I am extremely proud of Sidley’s long-standing commitment to diversity and inclusion that extends to issues affecting the LGBT community,” said Sally Olson, Sidley’s Chief Diversity Officer. “Sidley was one of the first large law firms to offer parity in healthcare, leave and other benefits for same-sex domestic partners, and we continue to cultivate an environment designed to attract, retain and promote outstanding individuals that reflect the global communities we serve.”
Sidley was also named to the Equality Illinois 2012 list of the 10 most “LGBT-friendly” law firms doing business in Illinois in recognition of its achievements toward LGBT workplace equality. The Firm was the first law firm to be a national sponsor of the Lambda Legal Defense Fund, which we continue today, and is an active participant in the annual Lavender Law Center Career Fair.
