This report describes many of the pro bono matters in which Sidley has been engaged over the last twelve months. The report reflects the continued growth of the three firmwide initiatives (Capital Litigation, Political Asylum and Immigrants’ Rights and Veterans Benefits), as well as our individualized pro bono efforts in each of the six communities in the United States in which Sidley has an office. We are grateful to the lawyers, legal assistants and staff who devoted so much time to pro bono projects in 2008 — over 100,000 hours — and have made the world a better place for their efforts. Sidley’s enduring commitment to helping those in need and seeking justice for those who have no voice is reflected in each page of this report. As we start a new year and face the challenges of a difficult economy, providing pro bono services to the poorest and least fortunate in our communities remains a core value in our firm’s culture.
