Michael J. Sweeney
MICHAEL J. SWEENEY joined the firm in 1976 and was a partner of the firm from 1983 through 2012. Michael has worked on many matters for public accounting firms and for lending institutions. He has handled dozens of accountants’ liability matters for several of the largest U.S. accounting firms. His work in lender liability litigation included helping to appeal and overturn a $52 million jury verdict against a bank. He also participated in the successful defense, at trial and on appeal, of a commercial finance company charged with receiving a fraudulent conveyance in connection with a leveraged buyout. He has prepared amicus curiae briefs for trade associations in the U.S. Supreme Court, the Illinois Supreme Court and several other state and federal appellate courts on issues of importance to banks and other lenders. He has taught bankruptcy law as an adjunct instructor at DePaul University College of Law and professional responsibility law as a lecturer at The University of Chicago Law School.
He is a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers and of its Public Statements Committee.
