Financial Services Legislation

Sidley’s legislative practice involves representing clients before Congress and working extensively with congressional and regulatory staff on financial services issues. Our lawyers have been significantly involved in influencing major legislation affecting financial institutions, including representing clients in connection with the Dodd-Frank Act, FACT Act, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act. Sidley also provides clients with advice and in-depth analysis of proposed federal legislation, including its impact on the regulatory environment. We advise clients on pending legislative developments as well as proposed hearings and policy initiatives. Our lawyers have testified before several federal congressional committees on behalf of client interests. Sidley also works with clients to assist in planning their legislative strategies for achieving their legislative and business objectives.

Our deep involvement in legislative issues affecting financial institutions gives us the ability to analyze and interpret new laws with a distinct perspective. Working with congressional and regulatory staff during the legislative process gives us the ability to have a better understanding of how key policymakers, including regulatory agencies, are likely to view and interpret new laws.
