Sidley’s office in Switzerland, based in Geneva, was established in 2002 and is home to both our top-ranked international trade practice and one of Europe’s foremost international arbitration and cross-border dispute teams. The office is composed of an experienced multinational team of more than 20 lawyers, policy advisors, economists, analysts, paralegals and legal assistants.
Our Geneva World Trade Organization Team is the top-ranked leader in shaping and enforcing international trade rules. Its professionals have been at the forefront of WTO law and its ongoing development since the WTO began in 1995. The group represents many different WTO Members and leading multinationals and associations in complex WTO dispute settlement and in resolving trade disputes. We also provide assistance to clients on a wide range of complex issues before other Geneva-based international organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which increasingly touch on trade and investment law and policy.
Our International Arbitration and Dispute Team represents clients from around the world in a wide spectrum of commercial and investment disputes in all major arbitral forums. It comprises experienced advocates who have taken many complex, high-stakes disputes through to hearing and award. We have significant Swiss law capability, provide judicial assistance in Switzerland for foreign civil proceedings, and handle complex cross-border disputes and investigations often working with arbitration and litigation lawyers in other offices. We also have extensive experience in the enforcement of arbitral awards and foreign judgments in Switzerland and elsewhere.
Our Geneva office’s strong advocacy on behalf of clients has earned us acknowledgement in numerous industry publications. Both the international trade and the international arbitration practices are recognized by Legal 500 EMEA and Chambers & Partners, and many members of our team have also been identified as top practitioners by prominent rating organizations.
