The Insider, Sidley Austin and Chiltington International, invite you to attend a morning briefing which will explore the data protection requirements relevant to insurance companies and compliance strategies to minimise risks of regulatory enforcement, law suits and the cost of managing the loss of data.
Insurance firms failing to take international data protection seriously are placing themselves at risk.
Recent UK cases with fines in excess of £3 million for one insurance group have highlighted the importance of compliance with data protection requirements for firms in the insurance sector. A recent report has also found that the business cost of dealing with a single security breach can be over £1.7 million. Data protection requirements impact all aspects of an insurance business from the placement of reinsurance, sharing of data with Head Offices, outsourcing back-office processes and also the movement of placing and claims information.
Topics that will be covered include:
- EU/UK Data Protection Requirements including for data transfers from the EU
- FSA requirements when handling customer data
- Update on new EU/UK enforcement powers
- Data protection compliance strategies and risk assessment
- How to deal with security breaches
- Roles of the ICO v FSA
