Recent UK cases with fines in excess of £3 million for one insurance group have highlighted the importance of compliance with data protection requirements for firms in the insurance sector. A recent report has also found that the business cost of dealing with a single security breach can be over £1.7 million. Data protection requirements impact all aspects of an insurance business from the placement of reinsurance, sharing of data with Head Offices, outsourcing back-office processes and also the movement of placing and claims information.
