JOHN G. LEVI is a partner in Sidley’s Chicago office. He represents major professional and financial services firms, national and multi-national corporations, as well as a host of medium-sized and smaller corporations in employment and labor matters before numerous federal and state courts, government agencies and arbitration forums. He regularly litigates claims regarding wrongful termination, fair employment issues, restrictive covenants, wage and hour, and other employment related matters in these various forums. In addition, he advises clients on their internal policies and governance. He handles negotiations with labor unions for unionized employers, and also handles arbitrations over discharges, suspensions and other grievances that arise under collective bargaining agreements. Mr. Levi also handles wage and hour disputes and other issues before the U.S. and Illinois Departments of Labor. He has counseled numerous clients regarding their employment policy handbooks and manuals. He prepares and negotiates executive employment agreements and post-employment covenants. He assists major employers in enforcing non-competition clauses that apply to executives or key employees who are attempting to depart with confidential information and major customers or lines of business. He has spoken at a number of employment law conferences and is the author of “Legal Issues Regarding AIDS in the Workplace” in the January 1988 issue of Commerce magazine. 

Mr. Levi chairs Sidley’s Law School Recruiting Committee and leads the firm’s Committee overseeing the Kanoon Magnet School, Chicago Public School. He is the recipient of the 2004 Abraham Lincoln Marovitz “Lend A Hand” volunteer award, was given an Honorary Diploma by the Francis W. Parker School in 2003, and is named in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law
