NIGEL MONTGOMERY is a partner in the firm’s London office. His practice focuses on insurance transactions, including restructuring and insolvency. He has a particular emphasis on schemes of arrangement and business transfers, run-off reorganisation, risk transfers for and reconstruction of UK and international insurance and reinsurance companies. He is also a licensed insolvency practitioner and has acted as liquidator, administrative receiver and administrator for a wide variety of companies. He has written and lectured widely on insurance issues, including in Sweet & Maxwell’s book on Cross Frontier Insolvency of Insurance Companies and Sweet & Maxwell’s text book on Insolvency. He has been recognised as a leading lawyer by several publications, including Chambers UK, PLC Which Lawyer? and Legal 500 UK. Nigel has been responsible for a number of leading cases involving insurance restructuring, including Charter Re, the then House of Lords decision on ‘Pay as Paid’ clauses, the Hawk Insurance case in the Court of Appeal on voting classes for schemes of arrangement and more recently the successful sanction of the WFUM schemes of arrangement. He is a law graduate from Cambridge University.
