Katharine Falahee Newman
KATHARINE NEWMAN is an associate in the Chicago office and is a member of the Environmental practice group. Ms. Newman practices in all areas of environmental law, but has particular experience dealing with hazardous substance contamination and cost recovery under CERCLA. She has represented a variety of clients in multi-party litigation, citizen suit actions and government investigations. Representative engagements include:
- Representation of a paper company in a multi-party CERCLA litigation to allocate liability for the PCB contamination of a river involving the largest environmental dredging project ever proposed.
- Representation of a manufacturing company in a RCRA 3008(h) corrective action investigation concerning a currently operating facility.
- Representation of an alternative energy company in a criminal investigation of alleged violations of environmental regulations.
Ms. Newman also maintains an active pro bono practice, and was awarded the 2012 Thomas H. Morsch award, the firm’s highest pro bono honor, for her role in obtaining U.S. asylum for a young woman who was persecuted in her native Cameroon.
