KAREN A. POPP is a partner in the Washington, D.C. Office of Sidley Austin LLP and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. She concentrates in corporate criminal defense, internal investigations, SEC Enforcement and Congressional investigations. Ms. Popp is a former federal prosecutor in New York, lawyer in the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice and Associate White House Counsel to President Clinton.
Ms. Popp has represented Sidley clients in a wide-range of matters involving allegations of criminal, civil and ethical wrongdoing. She has been retained to lead confidential world-wide internal investigations and defend corporations and individuals in government investigations relating to alleged FCPA and OFAC violations, securities fraud, accounting irregularities, kickbacks, tax fraud, misuse of corporate assets, false claims, antitrust and other bribery, corruption and fraud. Ms. Popp’s clients are from a diverse range of industries, including finance, retail, oil, pharmaceutical, healthcare, communications, technology, insurance, security, charitable groups, transportation, labor and the government.
Ms. Popp’s practice also includes advising and auditing corporate compliance and ethics programs. She conducts training for Boards of Directors, management, compliance departments and other personnel in effective compliance programs, internal investigations and other matters relating to government enforcement actions. Ms. Popp also represents clients in civil and ethics proceedings, including those parallel to criminal investigations. Her practice includes representing Fortune 500 companies in other major commercial litigation.
