Our Approach to Securities Litigation
The skills and client-centered approach of Sidley’s securities litigators are oftentimes most evident in cases of high potential exposure where we work to achieve quick dismissal with minimal disruption to our client. We look for opportunities to resolve cases early and are frequently successful in obtaining dismissals, denials of class certification and summary judgment.
We also take cases to trial when necessary. Sidley’s Securities Litigation Practice team includes numerous first chair trial lawyers and several of our partners have the unusual experience of having tried securities class actions. We have also won important appeals that have resulted in the development of case law favorable to our clients, including the Tellabs decision in the United States Supreme Court.
Who We Represent in Securities Litigation
The quality, scope and depth of our practice is reflected in the clients who regularly retain us in securities matters. We are highly experienced in representing major corporations, financial institutions, accounting firms and officers and directors in litigation brought under Sections 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act, Sections 11 and 12 of the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities Act of 1940, and other provisions of federal and state securities laws as well as breach of fiduciary duty claims. We understand our clients’ businesses, and work closely with our clients to size up risk and develop coordinated and effective strategies to protect our clients against litigation and regulatory threats.
Our Broad Geographic Footprint
There are more than 100 lawyers in our Beijing, Chicago, Hong Kong, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Palo Alto, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. offices that are devoted to securities litigation and enforcement matters.
