Veterans Benefits Project
Sidley is a founding member of a new national program in which the Pro Bono Institute, the National Veterans Legal Services Program and the American Legion have partnered to provide much-needed assistance to the thousands of service members with disabilities returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The program, which brings together representatives from law firms and corporate legal departments, is providing assistance to wounded veterans seeking fair and timely benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Volunteer lawyers are helping veterans in a variety of ways, including screening their cases, identifying those who most need representation and filing claims on their behalf. Those committed to the project share a common belief that it is important to support our nation’s troops as they return to civilian life.
Ron Flagg, a litigation partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, was instrumental in getting the new program off the ground. Flagg is also chair of the National Veterans Legal Services Program and serves as chair of Sidley’s firmwide Committee on Pro Bono and Public Interest Law.
In addition to lending support for this new program, Sidley announced that
Emily Mily Wexler, an associate in the Chicago office, has filled a newly-created position as coordinator of the firm’s Veterans Benefits Project.
