Harnessing the potential of Big Data for Public Good is a priority for governments, industry and society. To examine these issues, Sidley and Bridges Consulting will be hosting a roundtable discussion with:
Sarah Collen, Senior Policy Officer, NHS Brussels office
Brendan Barnes, Director IP and Data Protection, EFPIA
The discussion will be moderated by Steve Bridges, Director, Bridges Consulting and William Long, Partner, Sidley.
Together, we will address the following:
- What policy objectives should the EU institutions, post EU elections, have in the next term to maximize the potential of Big Data for Public Good?
- How can legislation, such as the GDPR, be built on with stakeholder initiative, such as codes of conduct, to build a system that is appropriate and reliable in practice?
- What are citizens’ expectations concerning health data protection, privacy and security? Is enough being done by all stakeholders to inform the public about the risks of big data and privacy issues?
- How can data gathered by mobile and other consumer devices be utilized to improve health and well-being? To what extent will the roll-out of 5G open new doors?
The briefing paper from the last roundtable discussion is available here.
