On February 2, 2021, members of Sidley’s Automotive team, Partner Justin Savage and Associates Samina Bharmal and Aaron Flyer, will present, “Electrification Trends: Will Regulatory Changes and Corporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Issues Turning the Market Tide?,” at the SAE International’s premier event, Government/Industry Digital Summit. The presentation will discuss how legal, policy, and investment debates over electrification and can shape out-year Corporate Average Fuel Economy/greenhouse gas compliance. With record low fuel prices, gas and diesel engines continue to dominate the vehicle market. But investors and OEMs are betting that the electric battery era looms just over the horizon. That corporate drive may be accelerated by the emergence of ESG as an investment metric. Complicating that forecast are the shifting electric vehicle regulatory landscape and pending legal challenges to EPA’s decision to revoke California’s waiver to set electrification mandates in the form of Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) obligations.
