Potomac Riverkeeper Network (PRKN) will honor Washington, D.C. partner David T. Buente with its “President’s Award” as a part of its annual Service to Clean Water awards. The honor is in recognition of David and Sidley’s “generous and invaluable support as legal counsel,” representing the organization and providing pro bono technical and scientific experts who supported PRKN on some of the region’s most complex water pollution issues. The award will be presented on October 25 at PRKN’s annual Law & Water Gala, which celebrates the work done by the organization to enforce clean water laws that protect the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers.
Sidley and David worked on cases ranging from stopping discharges from a mobile home park leaking sewage into the Upper Potomac in West Virginia, to ending illegal stormwater discharges from a quarry in Pennsylvania and historic coal tar oozing into the Potomac River from a former industrial site in Alexandria.
David, co-leader of Sidley’s Environmental group, represents clients in complex environmental litigation and rulemaking matters, with an emphasis on Clean Water Act, CERCLA (Superfund) and RCRA, and environmental criminal and toxic tort litigation. Building on his 15 years as an environmental prosecutor, corporations turn to David for representation in complex federal environmental enforcement matters with DOJ and EPA and in defending toxic tort claims by states and private parties.
