Sidley is proud to announce that the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP) honored the firm with its “Law Firm of the Year” award for extraordinary pro bono service at The Pro Bono Awards which recognize judges, lawyers, law firms, court reporters and legal staff who have provided free legal aid to Dallas residents who could not otherwise afford it. Created in 1997, DVAP is a joint program of the Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas dedicated to increasing and enhancing pro bono legal services to the underprivileged in Dallas.
Through the firm’s pro bono work, Sidley brings meaningful change to the firm’s clients and communities. In addition to the work done through firmwide initiatives, Sidley provides diverse pro bono services to address the critical legal needs of the firm’s neighbors and neighborhoods. Particularly in Texas, the Sidley team worked together with the Human Rights Initiative of North Texas to help secure asylum for a Ugandan refugee who received death threats because of her sexual orientation, served as co-counsel in an ongoing case on behalf of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and obtained a 100% disability award from the VA for an Army veteran who suffers from PTSD and is totally unable to work due to his combat experiences in Vietnam.
