The Hollywood Reporter named Matthew C. Thompson to its “Hollywood’s Top Dealmakers of 2020: The Pandemic Players” list. The fifth annual dealmakers list spotlights the people who kept on their toes to keep the entertainment industry on its feet.
The publication profiled Matt, praising him for shepherding millions of dollars’ worth of acquisition and distribution deals at the behest of clients Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia. He advised the two on the launch of Teremana (their ubiquitous tequila brand) including arranging a global partnership brokering a distribution deal for their recently launched Teremana Tequila with legacy German spirits brand Jägermeister. He was also cited for overseeing Johnson and Garcia’s headline-grabbing acquisition with Red Bird Capital of the XFL out of bankruptcy and helping the league prepare for a relaunch in 2020.
Matt is a partner in Sidley’s office in Century City and firmwide leader of the Media and Entertainment group. He represents entertainment companies and sources of capital in complex M&A and financing transactions, as well as general corporate matters. He also represents entertainment companies and other similar parties in a wide variety of industry-focused commercial transactions.
