A ceremony announcing the winners of this year’s Legal Media Group (LMG) Life Sciences Awards took place on September 18 at Essex House in New York City. Sidley won two awards: “Patent Impact Case of the Year” for Bayer Healthcare v. Baxalta et al. (D. Del. 2018) and “Financial & Corporate Impact Deal of the Year” for Nurix Therapeutics’ collaboration with Gilead Sciences valued at US$2.48 billion.
In a jury trial on a Bayer patent asserted against Baxalta, the jury returned a damages award that ranks among the 10 largest patent verdicts in Delaware in the past decade and constitutes the largest biotech patent verdict in that court. Nurix Therapeutics’ global strategic collaboration with Gilead Sciences will allow both companies to discover, develop and commercialize a pipeline of innovative targeted protein degradation drugs for patients with cancer and other challenging diseases.
In addition to those honors, the firm was shortlisted in the following categories: General Patent Litigation Firm of the Year; Government Investigations Firm of the Year; Regulatory Firm of the Year; and U.S. Life Cycle Firm of the Year. Additionally, three Sidley lawyers were shortlisted for individual awards, including: Jim Badke – “General Patent Litigator of the Year – New York;” Coleen Klasmeier – “Regulatory Attorney of the Year: FDA Pharmaceuticals;” and David Pritikin – “General Patent Litigator of the Year – Midwest.”
