Law.com features partner Katy Lukaszewski in “How I Made Partner” series, which offers an inside look at the many unique career paths that can lead to law firm partnership. Lukaszewski, who focuses her practice on energy, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity, describes the biggest surprise in becoming partner. She said, “The announcement of my promotion to partner turned out to be a fantastic way to connect (or, in some cases, reconnect) with many of my friends, colleagues and clients. I didn’t necessarily expect or anticipate the flood of outreach and support I received, and I was very grateful.”
Lukaszewski also offered thoughtful insight to successful business development. She emphasized trying to think about each relationship or potential relationship on an individualized basis to make more meaningful. When asked what advice she would give an associate who wants to make partner, she said, “Don’t get me wrong, doing great work is key, but if you get in the habit of thinking about other ways you can contribute to the firm or otherwise make connections and build your practice, it will help you as you advance through the associate ranks.”
