SCOTT D. ANDERSEN’s practice focuses on the use of World Trade Organization (WTO) rules to resolve international trade disputes. He works closely with key WTO member governments, leading companies and trade associations on a wide variety of trade disputes, including agricultural and industrial actionable and prohibited subsidies, anti-dumping and other trade remedy measures, sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures, technical regulations and standards, and various forms of trade discrimination.
In 2012, Scott co-founded and now manages Sidley’s innovative Emerging Enterprises Pro Bono Program which provides free legal advice to small- and mid-sized agricultural enterprises and NGOs providing assistance to the poorest farmers. The program has expanded rapidly with more than 270 Sidley lawyers providing free legal services to over 65 clients in 24 countries.
Scott features prominently in the international trade and World Trade Organization rankings of the leading bar publications such as ChambersBest Lawyers and Who’s Who Legal. Most recently, Scott was recognized as a “go-to name” for anti-dumping matters, trade remedies and complex trade disputes in Who’s Who Legal 2019 Trade and Customs. Scott was also recognized in Chambers Europe 2020 as a highly-respected figure among market commentators. In the 2018 edition, clients have called him a “very strategic thinker with extensive WTO experience who is creative in the way he operates and, at the same time, very available.” In Chambers Europe 2017, “the very well-known Scott Andersen is praised by interviewees for his experience.” Previously sources have commented that Scott “knows the system so well and makes quick decisions because of his many years of experience” (Chambers Europe 2016). He is also recognized by Who’s Who Legal 2019 in the sections “Thought Leaders (Switzerland) and Global Leaders” for Trade and Customs.
