SHAY BANERJEE is an associate in the firm’s office in New York and member of the firm’s Privacy and Cybersecurity practice. Shay counsels clients on a range of data governance and emerging technology issues in the context of mergers and acquisitions, commercial agreements, technology transactions, vendor management, information governance and strategy, product counseling, incident response, and regulatory enforcement and compliance. He works with companies across a variety of industries including in the financial, digital media, cloud computing, telecommunications, insurance and healthcare sectors. Shay also has experience working with emerging companies from the Blockchain/FinTech, Internet-of-Things (IoT) and augmented/virtual reality spaces.
Prior to joining Sidley, Shay was an analyst at a digital strategy firm. He assisted digital media companies seeking to deploy data driven approaches and artificial intelligence to enhance the user experience and optimize customer engagement across desktop, tablet and mobile platforms. Shay leverages this prior experience to help his clients maximize operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with privacy, data protection, and technology law. While earning his law degree, Shay worked at the Columbia Law School Lawyering in the Digital Age Clinic, as well as at a mid-size law firm where he focused on IP litigation. Shay maintains an active pro bono practice, which focuses primarily on advising early stage companies and social enterprises on issues related to strategic governance, data privacy, corporate formation and IP development and strategy.
