SEFERINA BERCH is an associate and member of Sidley’s global Securities Enforcement and Regulatory practice, which received the 2019 Chambers USA Award for Financial Services Regulation, and was named the “Law Firm of the Year” for Securities Regulation in 2020 and 2017 by U.S. News – Best Lawyers. Her practice focuses primarily on representing individual and corporate clients in connection with investigations and enforcement actions by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and other federal and state regulators. Seferina has also handled regulatory matters within the data protection and cybersecurity field, working with the firm’s Privacy and Cybersecurity group on several data breach investigations.
Seferina received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was an associate editor on the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Business Law. She also received her Certificate in Management from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business. While at Penn Law, Seferina was the President of the Latinx Law Students Association (LALSA) and the Penn Law Softball Team, in addition to serving on the school’s Admissions Committee, Building Committee and Post-Acceptance Committee. Seferina worked directly with clients through her participation in Penn Law’s Mediation and Civil Practice Clinics, as well as through Students for Technological Progress, a pro bono group focused on researching cutting edge tech and policy issues in support of nonprofits, think tanks and policy-setting organizations, to help them navigate emerging areas of technology law and policy.
Prior to joining Sidley, Seferina served as an intern for the Honorable Evan Wallach on the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. and as a summer associate in Sidley’s New York Office.
