MATEJA MAHER has extensive experience in the structuring and establishment of private funds and across a variety of asset classes, including buyout, venture capital, infrastructure, real estate and debt.
Mateja has also advised a number of clients on secondary transactions (including structured and synthetic secondaries, GP-led restructurings and fund-level liquidity offerings), spin-outs of private equity groups from larger organizations, debut manager establishments, carried interest arrangements and UK and European regulatory considerations, including the implications of Brexit.
Previously, Mateja served as General Counsel of Campbell Lutyens, a leading private capital advisory firm. At Campbell Lutyens, Mateja acted across the firm’s primary and secondary mandates, working closely with clients and their chosen fund and transaction counsel to establish and market private investment funds and to develop, structure, market and close secondary transactions.
Mateja is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on topics relating to private fund formation, secondary transactions and associated regulatory and marketing considerations. Mateja is also a guest tutor on private equity to the MBA program at the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.
As in the previous edition (2022), Mateja has been ranked under “Next Generation Partner” by Legal 500 UK 2023 for Private Funds, where clients commented: “We work closely with Mateja Maher and he has been most knowledgeable on ongoing matters and structuring issues, yet has been outstanding in guiding us to a market entry in new jurisdictions, essentially scoping our needs and acting as essentially the project manager with the local Sidley Austin teams involved streamlining the process remarkably.” In 2017, Mateja was named as one of the world’s top 30 private equity lawyers under the age of 40 in the prestigious Private Funds Management (pfm) “30 under 40” list.
Prior to Campbell Lutyens, Mateja was a partner in the private funds practice of another international law firm in London.
