BECKY SHAFER is a managing associate in the Litigation group of the firm’s Chicago office. Her practice involves advising and representing clients in a wide range of complex commercial disputes, white collar matters, and government enforcement actions. Becky also maintains an active pro bono practice, including civil rights and asylum matters.
Becky earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she served as a member of the Board of Student Advisers. While in law school, she represented clients appealing denials of disability benefits through Harvard’s Legal Services Center and interned for the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
Prior to law school, Becky taught middle school reading through Teach For America and served as a researcher and program manager at a D.C. think tank. She earned her B.A. in English with high honors from the University of Michigan.
Prior to joining the firm, Becky was a Public Interest Law Initiative Graduate Fellow at the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Matthew F. Kennelly of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
