KYLE SMITH is a managing associate in the IP Litigation practice in Sidley’s office in Washington, D.C.. He focuses his practice on patent litigation in district court, before the International Trade Commission, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Kyle has represented companies in patent and intellectual property matters spanning a variety of technologies, including semiconductors, telecommunications, medical devices, internet and consumer software, and e-commerce. His litigation experience spans all phases of litigation, including pre-litigation strategy, managing and drafting fact and expert discovery, taking and defending depositions, drafting case-dispositive and evidentiary motions, and trial.
Prior to joining Sidley, Kyle served as a law clerk for the Honorable Kimberly A. Moore of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He also practiced at another leading global law firm. Kyle earned his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was an All-American in the javelin for the University of Virginia Track and Field Team. Prior to law school, Kyle played Division I-A football and was an All-American in the javelin for Central Michigan University.
