MATTIE WHEELER is an associate in the Global Arbitration, Trade and Advocacy group in the Washington, D.C. office. She focuses her practice on investment treaty arbitrations, trade and investment policy issues and international trade compliance.
Prior to joining Sidley, Mattie served as a Heyman Fellow for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance. In that role, Mattie contributed to the Finance Committee’s work on various trade law and policy issues including the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), trade negotiations, trade enforcement, customs and e-commerce. While in law school, Mattie interned at the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of the Assistant General Counsel for International Affairs, focusing on legal work related to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and bilateral investment treaties.
Mattie previously received a Fox International Fellowship for graduate research at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris (2013–2014), where her work focused on French oil and gas companies operating in Algeria during the 1960s.
