More than 125 volunteers from Sidley spent Saturday, June 25 at Higgins Community Academy in Morgan Park as part of the 2016 Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon. Sidley volunteers completed 20 on-site projects including constructing and painting indoor benches in the gymnasium, painting classrooms and hallways and raising garden beds in the community garden. As Chicago’s largest day of service, Sidley was proud to sponsor the 25th annual Serve-a-thon which mobilized more than 5,000 volunteers logging a total of 20,000 hours at 32 sites across Chicago.
“As we celebrate 150 years in business, we also celebrate 150 years in the Chicago community. We have had a long-standing commitment to this great city we call home and it is our civic duty to ensure that this commitment continues to prosper,” said Larry Barden, chairman of the firm. “We can think of no better time to launch this partnership with Chicago Cares than in our 150th anniversary year.”
Sidley is dedicated to building stronger communities through partnerships and to providing our skills and resources to promote positive change. We regularly partner with our clients on volunteer projects that aid the underserved in our community, including our 30 year partnership with Chicago Public School’s Kanoon Magnet Elementary. Sidley lawyers and staff also devote more than 100,000 hours to pro bono projects annually through death penalty appeals, political asylum matters, civil rights litigation, veterans benefits appeals and improving the livelihoods of the world’s poorest farmers and their communities.
