2022 was a monumental year for both the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Securities and Exchange Commission. These most aggressive of financial regulators achieved record enforcement recoveries and outlined ambitious regulatory goals for the remainder of President Biden’s first term. And even in the face of a newly adversarial Congress, there is every indication that they will be just as, if not more, active in 2023.
