The Daily Journal named Century City partner Vijay S. Sekhon to its annual “Top 40 Under 40” supplement, which celebrates the achievements of California-based lawyers under the age of 40. Vijay was praised for his representation of such clients as Siris Capital Group LLC, Z Capital Group LLC and Castle Creek Capital LLC.
He was particularly lauded for his work for private equity firm Siris in its approach and negotiation of a “rare successful topping bid” to acquire Polycom Inc. – a leading provider of communications equipment and services – for about $2 billion in cash. In May 2016, Polycom entered into a merger agreement with Canada-based telecom Mitel Networks Corp. Sekhon and his team led the negotiations for Siris to acquire Polycom conditioned on the termination of the Mitel Transaction. Following receipt of a unilaterally binding offer from Siris, Polycom’s board authorized the company to terminate the Mitel merger agreement and enter into a merger with Siris. The Daily Journal commended Sekhon for his work stating such a successful topping offer by a private equity firm is “virtually unprecedented.”
Vijay is a partner in Sidley’s Century City office and a member of the M&A, Private Equity, Capital Markets and Corporate Reorganization and Bankruptcy practice groups. His practice focuses on mergers, purchases, sales and reorganizations of businesses for companies and private equity and hedge funds.
