Sidley was named among the “Top Foreign Law Firms” in India Business Law Journal’s annual report which recognizes the top 12 international law firms across the globe for their unparalleled India practices and routine engagements in advising on complex and high-value transactions involving Indian businesses.
Notably, Sidley broke into the top tier this year in recognition of its impressive record of accomplishments on India-related corporate finance matters – handling more IPOs in India than any other international firm in 2017. The firm was commended for advising the underwriters in Lemon Tree Hotels’ US$160 million IPO, acting for the underwriters on Idea Cellular’s US$550 million qualified institutional placement and representing a bank in Bharti Infratel’s US$240 million block trade of shares, appearing on GTL Infrastructure’s convertible bond offering, as well as advising HPCL-Mittal Energy on its maiden issuance of US$375 million of senior unsecured notes due in 2027. Additionally, Singapore-based partner Manoj Bhargava was particularly praised by the publication for his work in the corporate finance area. New York-based partner Samir A. Gandhi and Singapore-based counsel Ankit Kashyap were also recognized as specialists in India.
India Business Law Journal has been publishing the annual “Top Foreign Law Firms” report for the past 12 years. The results are based on in-depth research and analysis of more than 600 law firms that have documented deals and matters with an Indian element in the past 12 months, as well as extensive consultation with corporate counsel and Indian law firms.
