For the second consecutive year, Sidley was named a “Top Foreign Law Firm” by India Business Law Journal (IBLJ). The publication’s annual report recognizes the top 12 international law firms for their “unparalleled” India practices and routine engagements advising on complex and high-value transactions involving Indian businesses. Recognized firms were selected based on in-depth research and analysis of more than 600 law firms, from every continent, that have documented deals and matters with an Indian element in the past 12 months.
The firm was lauded for its “solid pipeline of capital markets transactions,” with Singapore partners Manoj Bhargava and Ankit Kashyap drawing praise for their India-focused work. IBLJ highlighted clients’ appreciation of the “high level of active partner involvement,” which they say “sets Sidley apart from other international law firms.”
Sidley was also commended for assisting clients on inbound and outbound M&A, financing and project finance transactions, as well as its matters pertaining to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Notably, IBLJ cited Sidley’s work for JM Financial in the US$1.89 billion Regulation S offering of units and issue of debentures of the India Infrastructure Trust, for representing Axis Bank on its US$735 million offer of equity shares, as well as for advising the underwriters on Chalet Hotels’ US$230 million initial public offering.
