RACHEL HAMPTON, a litigation associate in the firm’s Chicago office, focuses her practice on products liability and class action defense matters, along with other complex litigation matters. Rachel has successfully defended companies in both trial and appellate courts, including companies in the pharmaceuticals, consumer products, and insurance industries.
Rachel advises clients at all stages of the litigation process. She has played key roles in the development of defense strategy, briefed successful dispositive motions in federal district courts, and drafted successful appellate briefs. She also has experience in fact development and discovery, including drafting and responding to written discovery, taking depositions, and day-to-day case management.
Rachel graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif. While in law school, she served as a contributing editor of the Michigan Law Review and participated in the Federal Appellate Litigation Clinic. Rachel graduated with highest honors and highest distinction from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Political Science and German, and a minor in Sustainability.
Prior to joining Sidley, Rachel clerked for the Honorable Edward C. Prado of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Honorable Lucy H. Koh of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
