Dr. WEIWEI ZHANG uses her multidisciplinary knowledge of international law, economics, and trade policy to help clients address challenges relating to international trade in goods and services.
Together with other Sidley professionals, Weiwei advises clients on WTO dispute settlement, including consultations and proceedings before WTO panels and the Appellate Body. She has worked on both original and compliance proceedings in disputes concerning export restrictions and agricultural trade.
Before joining the firm, Weiwei gained valuable professional experience at the EU-China Trade Project, the Trade in Services Division of the WTO Secretariat and the Shanghai WTO Affairs Consultation Center, as well as academic experience at the Centre for Trade and Economic Integration of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva.
Weiwei is an adjunct professor at IE Business School, and teaches the European Public Law Organization’s International Economic Law LL.M. program . She has previously lectured on international trade law at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, the International Economic Law and Policy (IELPO) LL.M. program in Barcelona, the World Trade Institute in Bern, and Tsinghua University in Beijing. Weiwei also serves on the academic board of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition.
Weiwei’s research has been published in peer-reviewed academic journals, including the Journal of International Economic Law and the Journal of World Trade. She is a regular speaker at international conferences. Her recent research focuses on the interface between fintech (including blockchain, big data, and artificial intelligence) and international economic law.
Weiwei is fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) and English.
