Jana Jobes Wozniak, a Tulane alum, is a partner in the firm’s Product Liability & Mass Torts Litigation practice in Chicago. She represents clients in the chain of manufacturing and distribution against claims that a product has malfunctioned, was improperly designed or contained inadequate warnings. Since joining Sidley as a lateral in 2006, Jana has represented pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers. Her work involves all aspects of mass tort proceedings, including fact investigation and development, depositions, class certification, expert preparation and defense, strategic planning, trial preparation and motion practice.
Jana’s extensive work with pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers has prepared her to oversee investigation and discovery in non-product liability cases for these clients. Jana has been frequently consulted on issues of document retention in this era of ever-changing technology. Because many of her cases have focused on the sales and marketing of prescription drugs, Jana can also advise clients on the creation of company policies and training with regard to what sales and marketing representatives should and should not do.
Jana enjoys the time she is able to spend on pro bono work at Sidley. In recent cases, she represented a person on death row in her home state of Alabama and assisted a woman with permanent legal residence forms through the National Immigrant Justice Center.
Jana is an avid traveler—she recently traveled to Bali on her honeymoon—and is involved with local organizations Bright Pink and FORCE (Facing our Risk of Cancer Empowered). After genetic testing revealed her increased risk for breast and ovarian cancer, Jana underwent a preventative mastectomy early this year. She has since become a passionate advocate for cancer prevention and women’s health. Jana plans to become a Bright Pink mentor, a role that will allow her to help women in situations similar to hers as they receive results of genetic testing and weigh their options.
