Bennett Jones LLP and Sidley Austin LLP invite you to a presentation on the impact of greenhouse gas (GHG) regulation on Canadian imports and exports, and what Canadian companies can do to protect their trade interests in light of recent developments.
In January 2009, U.S. President Barack Obama was sworn into office and promptly appointed a cabinet team that is strongly committed to early and aggressive action to reduce GHG emissions. The new U.S. Congress is also considering legislation calling for the imposition of emissions allowance requirements on imports from countries that have not adopted GHG rules “comparable” to eventual U.S. regulations.
In addition, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s review of how GHG emissions might be regulated under the U.S. Clean Air Act is ongoing and may prompt important developments in its own right. A Canadian industry coalition advised by Bennett Jones and Sidley Austin has made a submission to the EPA and is active in the Agency’s ongoing review.
Canadian regulation of GHGs may also occur in the near future with all major political parties having put forward approaches in the recent past.
We invite you to hear a distinguished panel of U.S. and Canadian experts on climate change and trade regulation discuss recent developments and what Canadian businesses can do now to safeguard their interests.
