Sidley is proud to announce that the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Section of Litigation honored Chicago partner John G. Levi with its 2019 “John Minor Wisdom Public Service and Professionalism Award.” He was recognized for his “outstanding contributions to the quality of justice” in legal communities and for “ensuring that the legal system is open and available for all.”
The ABA commended John’s leadership at Sidley and beyond, highlighting his appointment to the 11-member Board of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) by President Obama. Since April 7, 2010, John has and continues to serve as Chairman of the Legal Services Board of Directors. The ABA praised John for “taking LSC to new levels” and “expanding access to justice around the United States.” Under his leadership, LSC appointed a 60+ member Pro Bono Task Force which acts to supplement the limited resources of legal aid programs; raised funds to support LSC’s Rural Summer Legal Corps program which annually places law students in legal aid programs to serve low-income people in rural areas; and appointed a multidisciplinary, national Disaster Task Force to promote the use of civil legal aid in helping communities prepare for and recover from national disasters, as well as a task force on the opioid crisis and civil legal aid, which Sidley has supported financially and through the work of its lawyers.
At Sidley, John represents major professional and financial services firms, national and multi-national corporations, as well as a host of medium-sized and smaller corporations in employment and labor matters before numerous federal and state courts, government agencies and arbitration forums.
