The Daily Journal named Los Angeles partners Lisa M. Gilford and Jennifer C. Hagle to its 2019 “Top Women Lawyers” list.
The Daily Journal lauded Lisa as a “go-to lawyer” for high-stakes litigation, praising her for her aptitude in handling matters involving scientific or technical disputes. She was commended for representing The University of North Carolina in multiple high-profile matters. The Daily Journal highlighted her work on a series of class actions and legal challenges arising from an academic scandal that involved student athletes taking “paper classes” in order to maintain grade eligibility to play in the NCAA.
Jennifer was praised as “one of the country’s top transactional bankruptcy lawyers.” The Daily Journal applauded her representation of MUFG Union Bank NA as administrative agent for a syndicate of lenders and the largest creditor in the Chapter 11 cases commenced in 2018 when The Weinstein Company fell into financial distress. Jennifer accomplished what at one point seemed impossible: selling The Weinstein Co.’s assets to Lantern Entertainment, ensuring full payment to senior secured lenders. The Daily Journal also commended her representation of Bank of America NA in relation to a US$150 million senior syndicated loan facility issued by Corinthian Colleges Inc. as well as her leadership of a team representing creditor MetLife Capital LP in connection with the FirstEnergy Solutions Corp. Chapter 11 cases currently pending in Akron, Ohio.
The Daily Journal’s annual “Top Women Lawyers” list honors women lawyers in all practices of law, who have “made a difference to their clients, their firms, and their profession.”
