Sidley counsel Alan E. Rothman has been presented with the “Outstanding Contributor” award by Lawyers for Civil Justice (LCJ). This is the second time he has received the accolade. Each December, LCJ recognizes the efforts of those members who shaped LCJ’s formal comments and public testimony and provided compelling reasons for judges, Congress, and rule makers to give serious consideration to meaningful reform.
Alan is counsel in Sidley’s Product Liability practice and serves on the firm’s COVID-19 Task Force. Alan has more than two decades of experience representing pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer product, chemical, and other companies in connection with more than 20 Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) proceedings, as well as class actions and individual mass tort product liability litigation. He has successfully argued issues of first impression, as well as jurisdictional and coordination issues in federal and state court. Alan also has extensive end-game strategy experience, serving as settlement counsel with respect to the resolution of mass torts. Alan is an industry thought leader, having authored more than 75 articles regarding MDL and jurisdictional issues, including a bi-monthly Law360 column (now concluding its ninth year) focusing on practice before the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation. Alan is also at the forefront of issues relating to MDL and other legal reform.
