Sidley associate Sheri Porath Rockwell has been named Chair of the Privacy Law Section of the California Lawyers Association, California’s bar association. The Section provides members of the California bar with educational and networking opportunities, brings together diverse voices to participate in the legislative process and agency rulemaking, publishes a monthly privacy and cybersecurity newsletter, and provides mentorship opportunities to new lawyers and law students looking to enter the privacy field.
Sheri stated, “I am honored and excited to have this opportunity to lead the Privacy Law Section during this especially momentous year for California privacy law that will include the establishment of the new California Privacy Protection Agency and rulemaking for California’s newest comprehensive privacy law, the California Privacy Rights Act. I look forward to continuing to foster the growth of the Section as a place for the exchange of ideas and professional development for the broad spectrum of California privacy lawyers we represent, including privacy counsel at California’s leading tech companies, privacy advocates and educators, and law firm counsel representing both consumers and regulated entities.”
Sheri advises companies on privacy compliance and corporate data protection programs, including compliance with federal and state privacy laws. Sheri is also a member of Sidley’s California Consumer Privacy Litigation Task Force, a dedicated group of lawyers focused on the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), counseling clients on how to mitigate litigation risks.
