DANIEL APPLEBAUM is an associate in the Investment Funds group in Chicago. His practice focuses on private alternative investment funds—their structuring, management and related corporate and regulatory matters. Dan regularly advises and represents clients in connection with the organization and operation of private funds pursuing a variety of strategies across a range of geographies, including hedge funds, private equity funds, hybrid funds, funds of funds, fund platforms, single investor funds, co-investment funds and special opportunity funds. He also has experience advising and representing clients with the formation and operation of management entities for private funds, as well as the negotiation of side letters and investment advisory agreements in various contexts (including for separately managed accounts and manager of managers platforms).
Prior to joining Sidley, Dan was a Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) Graduate Fellow at the Loyola Federal Tax Clinic and spent his summers during law school working in the legal departments of a leading exchange-traded fund sponsor and a large multinational steel manufacturer.
Dan is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Illinois.
