MICHELLE W.Y. CHAN’s main areas of focus are international arbitration, both commercial and investment treaty, commercial litigation and disputes and internal regulatory investigations.
Michelle’s experience includes advising on all phases of complex, multi-jurisdictional disputes before international tribunals, as well as proceedings in England before the High Court and Court of Appeal. Michelle works with government and private sector clients, operating across a diverse range of industries, including energy, construction and banking.
Michelle trained at Sidley’s London office and gained experience working in the global finance, financial services regulatory and disputes resolution teams. As part of her training contract, she completed a secondment to the Geneva office and assisted with a wide variety of arbitrations and international trade disputes.
Prior to joining Sidley, Michelle worked at a leading arbitration firm in Paris and was part of the team advising on high-value oil and gas disputes in the Middle East and CIS regions and broader public international law matters, including boundary disputes. She previously clerked for a trial division judge in an international law court based in The Hague.
