KEVIN FEE is a partner in the firm’s Chicago office. Kevin has experience conducting internal investigations and handling government enforcement matters, and has represented business entities, government entities and individuals in a diverse range of matters in state and federal court.
Kevin was named to the inaugural edition of Benchmark Litigation’s 40 Under & Hot List in 2016. He has also been named by Leading Lawyers as an Illinois Emerging Lawyer in Criminal Defense Law: White Collar and Commercial Litigation.
Kevin has extensive experience in the following areas:
White Collar/Internal Investigations
Kevin’s white collar work focuses on conducting complex corporate internal investigations in a variety of industries, as well as representing individual and corporate targets of government investigations and enforcement proceedings. He has led internal investigations involving allegations of price fixing, fraud, healthcare fraud and abuse, and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, including multiple large-scale international investigations focused in Asia, Europe and South America. Kevin has interfaced with the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Securities and Exchange Commission in connection with the reporting of the findings of investigations, and has advised corporate boards on related disclosure, remediation and compliance issues. He also has significant experience representing targets of government investigations, including investigations involving significant press scrutiny, and in defending individuals and entities charged with crimes.
Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board
In October 2017, Kevin was appointed lead trial counsel to the Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board, the entity created by the Illinois Constitution to investigate and prosecute allegations of misconduct against Illinois judges. As trial counsel, he is primarily responsible for prosecuting complaints brought by the Board against Illinois judges before the Illinois Courts Commission.
Civil Litigation
Kevin is also a seasoned commercial litigator. He has litigated a wide variety of civil disputes in both state and federal court at the trial and appellate levels. Kevin has defended multiple class action suits brought against clients in state and federal court, including complex multi-party and multi-jurisdiction matters. He has also represented business entities and individuals in a variety of other contexts, litigating cases involving antitrust, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, licensing, fiduciary duty, data privacy, trade secrets, patent infringement and trust issues. Kevin regularly represents clients in mediations and arbitrations, and has experience in cases involving injunctions, temporary restraining orders and other emergency matters.
Pro Bono
Kevin is the Chair of the Pro Bono Committee in Sidley’s Chicago office. He also maintains his own active civil and criminal pro bono practice, including currently working with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on behalf of a class of incarcerated juveniles in Illinois challenging the conditions of their incarceration, and representing an inmate on death row in Alabama as part of Sidley’s Capital Litigation Project. Kevin has chaired a monthly firm-sponsored free legal clinic for close to a decade and served on the Board of Directors of Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS). Kevin also serves on the Board of Directors at the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI).
